Welcome to the Brick Lane Circle

The Brick Lane Circle organises a unique annual seminar series on Bangladesh and Bangladeshis abroad. Presenters come from a range of backgrounds and from a multitude of perspectives. The series culminates in a conference focusing on an aspect of Bangladeshi history, politics or social paradigm that has a lasting effect on that country.

We aim to help transform the intellectual landscape of the Bangladeshi community in the UK and take it to a new level of confidence and critical engagement with everything relevant for the community's speedy progress and development.

One important element necessary for making breakthroughs and solving long standing problems in the community is to bring people from different backgrounds and political divides to talk to each other, discuss rival perspectives and debate over different narratives and ideas. This process will enable more people to develop a better and deeper understanding of problems and issues faced by Bangladesh and Bangladeshis abroad, which, in turn, will result in the development of better quality solutions.

We aim to achieve this by developing and facilitating better connections between people who are engaged in research and intellectual pursuits involving Bangladesh or Bangladeshis abroad; encouraging more people to engage in developing objective knowledge and creating opportunities for debates and intellectual exchanges.
